Photo Essay: Mammoth Hot Springs

Photo Essay: Mammoth Hot Springs

Long story short, we needed an image of our Ridge Boxer, and we thought it might be cool to shoot at one of the remote hot springs near Mammoth. The next morning I woke up before sunrise and drove outside of town to give it a try.

As the sun rose over the White Mountains, I was first greeted by a weird cloud hovering just feet above Crowley Lake

The still air was only 5°F and everything was covered in frost, giving the landscape around the hot springs a soft, filtered glow.

When I got to the spring, I set up a tripod, threw the boxers on the ground and hopped in the tub. The water was perfect, but my dog Kenzie was not. Shot after shot, she slowly wandered into the frame each time I hit the timer and jumped in the tub.

After a number of reps jumping in and out, I got something useable and could finally relax and enjoy the hot water and breathtaking view.

After a while, it was time to head back to town for coffee, food and to grab my ski stuff on the way to the mountain. As usual, Kenzie led the way back to the car and our photo mission was complete. - JR
