From snowy backcountry lines to early morning skin tracks, people who live and recreate in the mountains rely on accurate information to stay safe. The mountains are our home and our inspiration, and it’s why we’re proud to support the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center, a nonprofit that provides avalanche forecasting and education in the Eastern Sierra.

About the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center

The Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center (ESAC) was founded in 2005 to help reduce avalanche-related accidents and fatalities through forecasting, field observations and community outreach.

Based in Mammoth Lakes, ESAC’s team of forecasters works throughout the winter to provide reliable, up-to-date avalanche forecasts from Bishop to Bridgeport, one of the most popular backcountry skiing zones in the country, right in our backyard.

ESAC also offers free avalanche awareness programs and backcountry safety workshops. Their efforts ensure that everyone has access to the knowledge they need to make informed decisions in avalanche terrain. Whether experiencing the backcountry for the first time or a seasoned ski mountaineer, what ESAC provides benefits everyone.

Working Together to Keep Our Community Safe

Our partnership with ESAC reflects our deep roots in the Eastern Sierra and our shared commitment to the people who love to explore these mountains. As part of our commitment to giving back, a portion of every purchase helps fund ESAC’s forecasting, education and outreach programs.

“The continued support from Ridge Merino and their outdoor-loving network allows ESAC to continue providing free daily avalanche forecasts, backcountry safety information and educational opportunities to backcountry enthusiasts in the Eastern Sierra. Just like your cozy merino wool layers, having a good understanding of avalanche hazard is crucial to a fun and safe day in the backcountry. Whether you are putting the skins on your skis or snowboard or if your fueling up the sled for a rip through the meadow, we recommend you start your day with the avalanche forecast by visiting esavalanche.org."

- Steve Mace, Director of ESAC

Whether you’re heading out for a dawn lap or a weekend ski tour, ESAC’s daily avalanche forecasts are a critical part of trip planning. We’re proud to support their work so everyone who ventures into the mountains can do so more safely.
