For years we've been working on crafting a true active-insulation jacket with Merino wool. Meet the Alpha Wool Jacket: lightweight, weather-resistant fabric on the outside with soft, odor-resistant Merino on the inside. This insulated jacket delivers exceptional breathability for high output activities.
Warmth and breathability on the go.
Alpha Insulation Technology
Our breakthrough: pairing Pertex® Quantum Air on the exterior with Polartec® Alpha™ Direct with Wool insulation. The result is lightweight warmth, weather resistance and breathability required for high output mountain days.
The lofted Merino wool fiber structure with a polyester mesh core keeps warm air in when you need it and lets it pass through when you're moving: active thermal management.
It's the insulated jacket you've been missing for frigid resort skiing days, brisk fall runs and daily mountain life.
Build for wild conditions. Just as comfortable for daily life.
We built this insulated jacket to add strategic warmth as a mid layer in a ski layering kit. But it works equally well as a standalone jacket for chilly days year-round. It may be highly technical, but it's also endlessly versatile.
Alpha Wool Jacket FAQs
-
Traditional insulation - like fiber fill or down - traps as much warmth as possible, so it's not breathable. It's best suited for static conditions. When you're moving in traditional insulation, you may overheat or get clammy.
Active insulation is designed for movement. It keeps you warm while allowing heat and moisture to escape, so you stay comfortable through a wider range of activities and conditions. It responds to your activity level, so you stay comfortably warm without overheating. Active insulation is perfect for stop-and-go activities like ski touring, hiking and climbing.

Polartec® Alpha™ is an innovative active insulation that adapts to changing conditions by effectively regulating heat and moisture. This technology was first developed for U.S. Special Forces to handle the stop-and-go demands of active combat.
Polartec® Alpha™ Direct Wool improves upon Alpha by incorporating Merino wool next to skin, so you get Merino's natural odor resistance and breathability.
This insulation uses a lofted Merino wool fiber structure with a polyester mesh core, which keeps you warm when needed and enhances airflow during movement so you avoid overheating and stay comfortable in unpredictable conditions.
Polartec® Alpha™ Direct Wool insulation is warmer than traditional Alpha insulation.

Pertex® Quantum Air fabric is super lightweight, air permeable, and water- and wind-resistant. It's built to keep you comfortable on active days when you're on the go but need warmth when you stop.
This fabric is between a traditional wind shell and a breathable woven fabric. It offers just enough wind protection, but it's porous enough that heat and moisture can escape.

We crafted this jacket with resort skiing and high output winter activities in mind: cross country skiing, running, ski touring, playing in the snow, etc. But it also works really well worn over a t-shirt or tank top for spring or fall climbing, camping, biking and more. Perfect for dog walks, snow shoveling and watching sports too.

Both! It's sleek enough to wear as a mid layer under an uninsulated ski shell jacket for ski days. And it's robust and weather-resistant enough to wear as a standalone jacket/outer layer over a base layer or mid layer on any cooler days.
