Inspired by Nature: Goldenrod

When we come up with new seasonal colors we always look to nature for inspiration. Here in the Eastern Sierra where Ridge is based, there are tons of beautiful, rich yellows. These yellows are found in wildflowers in the spring and summer, aspen leaves and rabbitbrush in the fall, alpine sunsets and sunrises, and in that glowy golden hour light most mornings and evenings here.

We named the color after California Goldenrod, a native perennial herb found throughout our home state with rich yellow flowers. It also reminds us of some shades of California poppies, our state flower.

Merrill Worlund, who manages design and product development for Ridge, wanted to introduce a yellow as a seasonal color for several years before Goldenrod made the cut. Several other yellows were considered, but Goldenrod was the one that stole the show. Merrill envisioned it as a sun hoodie and a t-shirt when she first introduced the color.
