How To Make a Difference on Giving Tuesday - And Everyday

How To Make a Difference on Giving Tuesday - And Everyday

December 02, 2019

Since Yvon Chouinard founded 1% For the Planet in 2002, more than $225 million has been donated from companies around the world to a network of environmental nonprofits. Today this global organization is made up of 2,000 companies in 60 countries that pledge to donate at least 1% of their annual sales back to give back.

On Giving Tuesday, and everyday, conscious consumers can make a difference by making purchases that help the planet. Here are a few ways to get started.

Bidding for Good
Now through Dec. 7, bid on items in the 1% For the Planet 2019 Network Auction. Featuring more than 200 products and services donated by 140 members of the network, this year’s items range from sunglasses to backpacks to a Ridge Merino Convict Hoodie. All proceeds from the auction directly support the 1% For the Planet mission: to help fund its network of diverse environmental organizations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the world's problems.

Choose 1% For the Planet Companies All Year Long
Make purchases that make a difference. 1% For the Planet companies donate 1% of annual sales to support environmental nonprofits. As a 1% business member since 2015, a portion of every Ridge purchase has helped support environmental efforts in our own community and nationwide. So far, we've contributed to nonprofit organizations that fight climate change, ensure the health of our waterways, eliminate harmful toxins in the environment and protect our public lands, to name a few.

Donate Directly As An Individual Member
Giving Tuesday is the perfect time to make the commitment and donate directly as an individual member to 1% for the Planet nonprofits. Anyone can join and donate 1% of their salary to the approved nonprofits via monetary donations and/or volunteer support.

"We've seen firsthand how a single collective action by a dedicated group of people can create a world of difference. Our impact is not simply the movement of money toward a worthy cause. It's businesses and individuals taking responsibility for the environment. It's conscious consumers who purchase for the planet. It's donors that make their money matter. It's our approved nonprofit organizations going to work. It's our dedicated network collectively taking action." - 1% for the Planet
